One of Five in the World: What It Meant to Bring SPREEAI to WAIC in Shanghai

Standing under the lights at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, I paused to take it in. Banu, Erin, and I represented SPREEAI at WAIC Shanghai on a stage most founders only dream about. We did not get there by luck. A global competition selected only five startups to attend. SPREEAI earned one of those five seats, and the distinction still feels surreal.

WINNING THE SEAT AT THE TABLE

Selection as one of five global startups did not come as a formality. Judges rigorously reviewed what SPREEAI is building. Our AI commerce platform turns hesitant browsers into confident buyers through photorealistic virtual try-on, calibrated fit prediction, and outfit intelligence. Every day, our team does that work behind laptops and through late nights. At WAIC, global leaders measured it against some of the best AI companies on the planet. It held up.

WHY SHANGHAI MATTERED

WAIC is not just another conference. It brings together government leaders, enterprise buyers, founders, and technologists from around the world. Consequently, the conversations shape how AI will move across markets. Bringing SPREEAI to Shanghai was not about a booth or a banner. Instead, it marked a deliberate step in our global growth. It also showed that fashion and retail challenges matter far beyond one market.

THE TEAM BEHIND THE MOMENT

None of this happens alone. Banu and Erin represented the company with the same care and precision we bring to the product. More importantly, they made the technology feel clear and relevant to people meeting us for the first time. A startup’s biggest asset is never just its technology. It is the people willing to fly across the world, stand under conference lights, and explain why the work matters.

A TEAM EFFORT, A GLOBAL SIGNAL

The moment also belonged to the entire SPREEAI team. Colleagues across engineering, design, and operations helped earn our place there. The demo behind us reflected months of focused work. Many contributors never set foot in Shanghai, yet their fingerprints appeared in every pixel of the virtual try-on experience. As a result, the booth felt less like an individual achievement. It felt like a team finally showing the world what we had built in the quiet.

Asia’s response gave the trip even more meaning. Retail buyers, founders, and engineers asked sharp, specific questions. They understood the problems we had solved and wanted to know what came next. That curiosity showed that demand for AI commerce technology extends far beyond one region. Meanwhile, the word about SPREEAI kept spreading across the room. Watching people discover the company in real time became one of the most energizing moments of the journey.

WHAT THIS MEANS GOING FORWARD

Being one of five selected startups is not a finish line. It is a checkpoint. For SPREEAI at WAIC Shanghai, the recognition confirmed that our vision can travel across markets and cultures. However, recognition rarely comes first. Teams must do the unglamorous work long before anyone watches. Then, when opportunity arrives, they can earn it instead of hoping for it.

If you are building something of your own, let this moment offer some motivation. Global ambition is not reserved for the largest players in the room. Small, focused teams can win a seat at the table too. First, build with discipline. Then be ready when the door opens.
